Nayeli Santos (México, 1977)

Artista escénica e interdisciplinaria/Gestora Cultural

Lives and works in Guadalajara, Mexico

Nayeli Santos has developed a body of interdisciplinary work combining body experimentation, performance, sound and visual experimentation, to question the limits of purist traditional narrative in stage arts, her last projects address abstraction and nihilism in expanded stage format and incite the public to build meanings through metaphoric readings.

Her piece would be pointed as transdiscipline do to the juxtaposition which is done between questioning-resistance and the dialog, which expands in his ontological sense of art, when we potenciate other significance and experiences of what dance implies, the performance, the sound or image in its own practice; has shown us works from the body, crossed by visual and audio experimentations, eluding and enunciating situation-conflicts by which the body goes through and is affected.

Nayeli Santos production develops from alternative stage and independence, or from non hegemonic practices within the art field, thus it is an art distant from the market demands and generate a pulse of contemporaneity.

In her 23 years trajectory she developed as an experimental dancer. During ten years at Experimental Machina her independent company, she showed her capacity as a prominent director, choreographer and interpreter, with innovative proposals that involved artists from diverse disciplines or people not properly dancers that allowed her to experiment corporeality in a different manner.

She graduated her masters degree in Scenic Practices and Visual Culture from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, offered by ARTEA hosted in the Museum of Reina Sofia and Center of contemporary Creation Matadero in Madrid, Spain. A Degree in Scenic Arts for the Dancistic Expression from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico.
